Pollok Country Park
Walk Length: Variable Woodland Walk
A peaceful woodland and riverside walk through Glasgow's largest park, home to the Burrell Collection and Highland cattle.
One of Glasgow’s best-kept secrets for a proper outdoor escape without leaving the city. Pollok Country Park covers over 360 acres of mature woodland, open parkland, and riverside paths along the White Cart Water. It was voted Europe’s Best Park in 2008 — and it’s easy to see why.
The park is home to the Burrell Collection, a world-class art museum housed in a stunning building surrounded by woodland. But the real draw for walkers is the network of paths through ancient trees, along the river, and past the resident herd of Highland cattle — always a highlight, especially with kids or dogs.
There are several routes to choose from depending on how much time you have. A short loop around the Burrell Collection and along the river takes about 30–40 minutes. For a longer walk, you can follow the White Cart Water south through the woods, loop past the walled garden and Pollok House (a beautiful Edwardian mansion managed by the National Trust for Scotland), and return via the old bridge — around 5km in total.
The paths are well-maintained and mostly flat, making this a great option for families, buggy-friendly outings, or days when you want fresh air without a big climb. Dogs are welcome throughout the park.
Getting here is easy — it’s about 10 minutes from Glasgow city centre by car, and Pollokshaws West train station is a short walk from the Haggs Road entrance. There’s also a regular bus service.
